Hello, how are you? It is wet today. What is your name? I am Sharon. Come in!
A few weeks ago I mentioned I was taking a few online classes through the Future learn website. This week started the Genealogy class. As I have been looking into genealogy more and more I have noticed how everyone seems to be related to important people or royalty. I am sure that is not the case for most of us and I have found some interesting items that may be obstacles in searches for ancestors. Like I mentioned I am of Scottish decent with a wee smidge of Irish thrown in. When I started looking at my history and learning Gaelic the Highland Clearances were a big obstacle. Whenever you have mass movements, things tend to get a bit muddled and confused. I had one lady mention she was able to track two brothers getting on a ship, but when they got off the ship they had decided to change the spelling of their last name and each had decided on a different spelling. Now that made things complicated real fast. When the USA was young and slaves were a way of daily life. Black individuals were not the only slaves there were. Irish slaves were the cheap slaves. These are also some of the things I did not think of - poorhouses and workhouses, indentured servants, and the like. All of which can make a search more interesting albeit more difficult. Here are some websites. That may help your travels through time.
